synosulf Tablets
COMPOSITION Each Capsule Contains
- Sulphamethoxazole B.P. 400 mg.
- Trimethoprim B.P 80 mg.
PROPERTIES
Anti bacterials.
INDICATION
Respiratory tract infection, urinary tract infection, bacterial dysentery, bacterial diarrhoea, enteric fever, acute gonococcal urethritis, chancroid, septicaemia, prophylaxis and treatment of pneumocystis carinii infection. Skin & soft tissue, ENT infections.
DOSAGE
Lower respiratory, urinary, GI tract and genital tract infections, Otitis media, sinusitis, skin and wound infections: (Trimethoprim 80 mg + Sulphamethoxazole 400 mg) usual dose 2 tabs b.i.d. Children 6-12 yrs: 1 tab b.i.d. 6 mths-5 yrs: (Trimethoprim 20 mg + Sulphamethoxazole 100 mg) 2 tabs b.i.d. 6 wks-5 mths: (Trimethoprim 10 mg + Sulphamethoxazole 50 mg ) 1 dose b.i.d. Under 6 wks: not recommended.Pneumocystis Carinii pneumonia: T20+S100 mg / kg in 3-4 divided doses for 14-21 days.
SIDE EFFECTS
Skin rash, exfoliative dermatitis, toxic epidermal necrolysis are rare, nausea, glossitis, vomiting, diarrhoea, head ache, hallucinations, depression, anaemia, aplastic anaemia, crystalluria, purpura, agranulocytosis.
PRECAUTIONS
Hepatic or renal impairment, bronchial asthma, patients with history of allergies. Blood dyscrasias. Maintain adequate fluid intake. Discontinue at first sign of rash or any sign of adverse reaction.
CONTRA-INDICATION
Infants under two months of age, liver or renal failure, hypersensitivity. Megaloblastic anaemia due to folate deficiency.
PHARMACEUTICAL PRECAUTION
Synosulf tablets should be stored in a cool and dark place.
